If you are in Paris and looking for a fun activity to do with kids, give the Fermes de Gally a try. Located on the outskirts of Paris, in the Yvelines department, the Gally Farms are guaranteed fun for all the family.

Depending on which farm you visit, there is a variety of fun activities to do for children from petting and feeding the animals to walks in the wood, workshops, picking your own fruits and vegetables, and much more.

We visited two farms with our little babu: the one in Saint-Cyr, near Versailles, and the one in Sartrouville, northwest of Paris. So, where should you go? Saint-Cyr Farm or Sartrouville Farm? Both offer interactions with farm animals and many great workshops for kids. But, in our opinion, if you wish to visit a larger farm, see more animals, go for a short hike through the woods and/or enjoy fruit picking during your day out, then Saint-Cyr is your best bet.

Visit the Farm and spend time with animals

You need at least 1 hour – 1 hour and half to visit the farm. The kids can observe and cuddle the animals, walk in the fields, and even climb on old tractors.

You’ll meet many farm animals: sheep and lambs, cows and calves, goats and kids, horses, ponies and donkeys, hens, pigs, rabbits, ducks, etc.

Generally, goats are among kids’ favorite farm animals. Both in Saint-Cyr and Sartrouville, the goats are mini alpine goats. They are very social and affectionate and will bond easily with your children.

Workshops for Kids

Your kid(s) can participate in various different workshops to understand how food is grown, the origin of what we eat, how to preserve our environment, etc.

Children aged 5 to 12 years old can learn how to make apple juice, or the process of making butter. They can learn how to recycle old paper. They can participate in a class that teaches beekeeping or a workshop on how to recognize birds. There are also workshops focusing on gardening, animal tracking, how to make an animal molding or how to make wool items. Children from 3 years old can even learn how to make their own bread.

Fruit and vegetable picking (‘Pick your own’ farm)

It is one of the most appreciate family activities at Gally: fruit and vegetable picking from April to November.

Depending on the season, the Gally farm offers a wide range of fruit and vegetable varieties: strawberries, apples, blueberries, raspberries, plums, currants, quinces, tomatoes, eggplants, zucchini, potatoes, beans, …

At the entrance, a large sign indicates what is good to pick and the prices. You’ll pick your favorite fruits and vegetables, and pay the weight of your harvest at the exit gate. For many fruits and vegetables, the price per kilo decreases. It’s quite interesting when you take large amounts. The farm has also wheelbarrows and pruning shears to help you gather your products.

Farm: Children: 4.20€ (during weekdays after school: 3.60€). Adults: 4.60€ (during weekdays after school: 3.60€).
